ParentVUE/StudentVUE Use Agreement

ParentVUE and StudentVUE are internet-based applications that provide access to education records for parents/guardians and students of Indian Prairie School District 204 (IPSD). This application uses a secured Internet site. IPSD204 takes the privacy and confidentiality of students and families seriously. Student records are subject to the protection of the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act and the State of Illinois Student Data Privacy Act. The Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level.

In order for the IPSD 204 to remain compliant with its obligations under the FERPA law, all parents/guardians and students who wish to use ParentVUE or StudentVUE must agree to the terms and conditions in the Agreement, and all applicable School Board policies and regulations including, but not limited to: 6:235 Access to Electronic Networks, Authorization for Electronic Network Access / Acceptable Use Guidelines - Electronic Networks, for students 7:190 Student Behavior, 7:310 - Restrictions on Publications, 7:340 Student Records and 8:95 Reporting to Parents:

Indian Prairie School District 204 values the privacy of its students and employees. Education data is key in the support of student success and school improvement. The District has practices and procedures in place to safeguard the the data entrusted to its safekeeping. The District encourages its students, parents and employees to become educated on the issues of data privacy and security.

  1. Rights and Responsibilities
    ParentVUE/StudentVUE is a free service offered to all current students and parents/guardians of IPSD 204 students. A parent/guardian must be authorized in order to access and/or activate a ParentVUE account, if the student is enrolled. Once a student withdraws or graduates, ParentVUE and StudentVUE access for that student's education records will be unavailable. Parents/guardians and their student(s) must practice proper and ethical use of ParentVUE or StudentVUE.

    Parents/guardians and students will need a device with Internet service to use ParentVUE or StudentVUE. While these applications are designed to be user friendly, IPSD 204 cannot promise optimal access or offer troubleshooting if users experience difficulties connecting to or using the ParentVUE or StudentVUE application.

  2. Responsibility for Information Accuracy
    Information accuracy is a joint responsibility between IPSD 204 and our parents/guardians. While school staff will make every attempt to ensure information is accurate and complete, parents/guardians should periodically check, and update, their student's personal and contact information; thus, confirming that information is accurate. Questions about attendance should be addressed to the school's main office where the student attends, and questions about grades should be addressed to the student's teacher.

  3. Use of the ParentVUE
    In addition to Parents/guardians and students are required to adhere to the following guidelines:
    • Act in a responsible, ethical, and legal manner while using ParentVUE or StudentVUE.
    • Not share their password with anyone.
    • Not attempt to access information for any account assigned to another user.
    • Not attempt to alter or destroy data or bypass network security measures of IPSD 204.
    • Not set their computer or mobile device to automatically login to the ParentVUE or StudentVUE site.
    • Not use this Internet site for any illegal activity, including violation of federal and state data privacy laws.
    • Parents/guardians or students who identify a security problem within ParentVUE or StudentVUE should notify their school immediately, without demonstrating the problem to anyone else.
    • Parents/guardians and students who do not comply with the terms of use will be denied access to the site.
    • Parents who have joint legal custody of their student, but live apart, may each activate a separate ParentVUE account. A non-custodial parent may activate a separate ParentVUE account. However, a non-custodial parent will not be permitted electronic access to contact information (telephone, address) of the sole custody parent and emergency contacts for the student.

  4. Limitation of School District Liability
    IPSD 204 will use reasonable measures to protect student information from unauthorized viewing. The School District is not responsible for claims arising through unauthorized use of ParentVUE or StudentVUE, the District's computer system, or the Internet. The School District will not be responsible for actions taken by the parent/guardian that compromise their student's information. The District reserves the right to limit or terminate ParentVUE or StudentVUE for viewing student information without notice. All ParentVUE and StudentVUE account activity is electronically recorded.

    IPSD 204 monitors its network and systems for signs of unauthorized access. We have taken care to provide a high degree of security, but there is no perfect system either online or offline. Please be advised that IPSD 204 does not provide any guarantees as to the absolute security of your personal information and the submitting of your personal information through this system is ultimately at your own risk. If you suspect any violation of security on this system, please immediately notify us at sis@ipsd.org. All matters referred to us will be promptly investigated.
